Press Release
Chamber announces new
date and theme for Auburn’s 2008 Black & White Ball.
Auburn,
CA
, February 7, 2008: Bruce
Cosgrove, CEO of the Auburn Chamber, and Rosie Mietzel, Event Chair, announced
today that Auburn’s Black & White Ball is being moved from the 3rd Saturday in
September to the 3rd Saturday in August to get into warmer weather
and away from the threat of rain. This
year’s event will be held on August 16, 2008 and is expected once
again to draw 6,000 people to the city’s streets.
The theme will be “Hollywood
– You Ought To Be In Pictures”. “We
hope to create a movie studio back lot experience, with movie sets, staging,
wardrobe costumes and props everywhere,” Cosgrove said.
Mietzel added, “Attendees could pick their favorite
movie character and come in costume; or simply wear anything black and white,
fun and comfortable. We expect
to see people dressed as Rhett Butler, Scarlett O’Hara, Marilyn Monroe, Rambo,
The Terminator, Elvis, Lucille Ball, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, John Wayne, R2D2 ,
maybe even Wilma Flintstone.”
The theme was submitted by Mary Ann Knight (
Dublin
,
CA
.) a friend of
Auburn
resident Joyce Crawford, contest winner from January’s “Help Choose the
Theme” competition, who will win 2 free tickets to the event. Over 20 theme
ideas were submitted by the community including South Pacific, Old West, Summer
Southern Nights and Super Heroes. The
Event Steering Team unanimously agreed that this winning theme “Hollywood
– You Ought To Be In Pictures” can incorporate ideas from many of the
other submissions, and will span decades of
Hollywood
’s film history. Stages and locations will be uniquely decorated, as found at
popular theme parks.
“The time change and 2008 theme have been well-received
by the City and our vendors, and the excitement is already building. Since the
event’s humble beginnings in 1991,
Auburn
’s Black & White Ball has grown from a local fundraising street party to a
regional destination and premier outdoor event.”
Now in its 17th year, Auburn’s Black & White Ball boasts a reputation for its larger than life
atmosphere, featuring spectacular costumes and decorations, superb
entertainment, and an ambiance unequalled in any auditorium. The Ball attracts a
multitude of affluent, savvy, party-goers with active lifestyles and insatiable
appetites for living the good life. . The evening includes food courts featuring
50 restaurants, libations, dancing, live music at multiple stage venues and
themed decorations, all taking place under the stars, on the city streets for
one admission price.
