Sponsors:  Staging the Auburn Black & White Ball each year would not be possible without the generous sponsorship of corporations, local businesses and individuals from the community and from around the region.  Beyond monetary contributions, significant assistance comes in the form of donations of time, services and material.  More than 60 companies are formal benefactors, with these key sponsors in 2007:  The Auburn Journal, Thunder Valley Casino, Raley’s/BelAir, Miller Brewing/Mussetter Distributing, Inc., City of Auburn , Auburn Placer Disposal Service, Union Bank of California, Harris Industrial Gases, 84 Lumber, American Medical Response, Emerald Green Janitorial Service, Inc., The Capps Group, The Sentinel and Sunbelt Rentals.

Volunteers:  It truly takes a village to produce the Black & White Ball each year.  Numerous committees work year ‘round to organize; overall, some 400 volunteers step up to produce the event, with a virtual army mobilizing at show time to set up and tear down staging and to clean the venue.

Crowd Size:  The Black & White Ball attracts more people to Auburn than any other regularly scheduled event.  Attendance has grown steadily over the years since the first program in 1992.  In 2006, the crowd was estimated at 6,500 (including paid and complimentary tickets).  For 2007, the crowd was estimated at 6,000..

Entertainment:  The party begins at the giant stages of the Black & White Ball, each with a popular band aimed at specific age groups and musical tastes.  Matters not which you choose, though, because the crowd is always on its feet, dancing the night away.  Here are the bands featured for 2008:

  •     Tainted Love:  Tainted Love ensures a time warp through a wide range of totally radical '80's         keepsakes, including tight vinyl clothing, sleeveless shirts and even ultra-zippered leather jackets. Part of the Tainted Love appeal is the great musicianship and the good time people have at their shows. This seven-piece group brings back the days when keyboards ruled the airwaves, cascading hairdos were commonplace and outlandish fashions lit up the pioneering early days of MTV. With a stellar line-up of high-energy singers driven by a powerhouse band, Tainted Love delivers a non-stop 80's live show featuring authentic costumes, exciting dance moves, and irresistible charisma!

  •     David Martn's House Party: Returning for the 5th time by popular demand, the party never stops with DMHP. Whether it's a conga line  through the Ball or his dancers bringing people on stage to shake some booty...the house is rockin' if David Martin's House Partyis in it! Musical variety from the 40's through today, this high-energy party band comprised of 11 musicians and 2 character dancers have been performing at special events for over 20 years throughout the USA. They will improvise all night, bringing you a fresh show with music virtuosos and character dancers.  Whether you like pop, disco, rock, Motown, or screeching heavy metal, you will be moving and shaking until the smoke clears and everyone is pleasantly exhausted.

  •     Little Texas:  Nashville supergroup Little Texas will perform two concerts at the Black & White Ball. With 7 million records sold and hits like "God Blessed Texas", "What Might Have Been", "Amy's Back In Austin", and "Kick A Little",  This won't be your grandma's country - the boys will be including some Rolling Stones and Beatles and their own brand of rockin' country music that will keep you on your feet all night!  This is an absolute "must see" at the main stage right inside the main entrance.

Cuisine:  One of the highlights of the Ball is the opportunity for local restaurants, caterers and purveyors to showcase their finest foods.  From fine dining establishments such as the Monkey Cat, Bootleggers and Carpe Vino to caterers such as Open Door, and Cathy's Catering, some 50 food venues will be in operation.  Of special note, Thunder Valley Casino will feature offerings from its 5 restaurants— including Austin’s Steakhouse, Shanghai Fats and Feast Around the World.  Raley’s/BelAir will be back again this year with a major food presence so there will be 4 food courts for our sampling pleasure.

Beverages: Libations of all kinds will be available during the Black & White Ball, from beer and wine to mixed drinks. Drink tokens are sold on site or in advance, 10 for $20 dollars; drink prices vary.  Participants must be 21 to enter the Ball, and purchase alcohol.  IDs will be checked.

Parking and Local Transportation:  Parking can be a bit of a challenge close to the Ball venues.  Complimentary shuttle busses will be running from various locations beginning at 7p.m. until approximately 2a.m. There will be three routes, delivering guests right to the front entrance of the Black & White Ball, near Placer Sierra Bank at the intersection of High St. and Lincoln Way .  Parking will be available at the Gold Country Fairgrounds, Auburn Town Center and Forest Hill exit motels.

 Pre-Ball Events:

  • Golf Tournament:  The Auburn  Country Club will be the site for the 14th annual Black & White Ball Golf Classic on Friday, August 15th.  The event is limited to 144 players and the cost is $155 to play.  The package includes golf cart, tee prizes, event hat, professional scoring, breakfast and gourmet lunch  and entertainment.  Beneficiaries are the Sutter-Auburn Faith Hospice, Boys & Girls Clubs of Auburn and the Auburn Chamber of Commerce.

Financial impact on the Community:  Following the 2007 event, it was estimated that more than $221,000 went back to the community as a result of the Black & White Ball.  This included more than $146,000 in goods and services purchased from Auburn area businesses and $85,000 to the Chamber of Commerce.  Substantial contributions were also made to Food For Families (through Raley’s\BelAir markets), Auburn Boys and Girls Club, Auburn Faith Hospice and the Auburn 49er Lions.
